First Immanuel is committed to providing our students with the latest educational technology, and technology is incorporated into all facets of our students’ learning.
Every child has a computer device!
FILS has a one-to-one computer program. That means that every child in grades 1-8 has access to their own personal computing device throughout their school day. Every child in grades 1-3 has access to an iPad, and every child in grades 4-8 has access to a laptop. The preschool, prekindergarten, and kindergarten classrooms have five iPads in each room, to support instruction in those settings. There is also be a set of iPads available for students in grades 4-8 to use for classroom activities. Middle schoolers are able to take their laptops home with them and, if they participate in the FILS computer program, they will own their FILS laptops when they graduate.
Our staff has been formally trained on how to use iPads and laptops in a school setting, and they are eagerly opening a whole new world of learning possibilities to their students.
Smart Boards in Every Classroom
All of our 4K-8 classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards, which are basically wall-mounted touch-sensitive computers, to allow more interactive learning opportunities. Our teachers are trained to use the Smart Boards and software in ways that best enhance learning.
Computer Lab and Instruction
Students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 3 have formal computer training in our state-of-the-art computer lab, while children in grades 4-5 have computer instruction on their own laptops. In the lab, each student sits at one of the 30 desktop computers, to learn appropriate use of the internet, keyboarding, and the most frequently used word processing and desktop publishing software programs.
