First Immanuel's foreign language curriculum is Middlebury Interactive Languages. Language instruction is offered to students in grades 3-8 and includes Spanish, French, Chinese, German or Latin.
Middlebury Interactive offers an expansive, immersive world language curriculum that's unmatched today. Elementary students gain exposure to world languages and cultures. Middle school students develop competency in a language, then progress toward fluency, which is critical to college and career readiness.
Middlebury Interactive programs fit the way students learn today, with games and activities that foster collaboration between students and teachers. This approach instills students with the skills and confidence to quickly gain proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. All courses are aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards, ensuring students get the best foreign language education possible.
In addition, our middle school students who are serious about advancing into higher level high school foreign language courses have the option of hiring an "interactive virtual teacher." This online teacher functions as a classroom teacher would, responsible for student progress and achievement, ongoing communication and encouragement, grading and feedback, and instructional support through virtual language classrooms, conversation cafes, and office hours. The virtual teacher has a supportive and collaborative relationship with school administrators, mentors, students and parents.
